Guidance Counselor

Duties and Responsibilities
The Guidance Counselor will work under the direct supervision of the department head and be responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive developmental guidance and counselling program. The following duties and responsibilities are typical but not exhaustive: Program Administration and Coordination
Collaborating with administrators and teachers in planning, implementing, promoting and evaluating the program; coordinating services such as standardized testing schedules as needed Employ appropriate assessment and screening tools Guidance and Counselling
Develop high school wide guidance curriculum Planning and delivering individual and group guidance / counselling Provide reasonable emergency support outside of school hours Connect with colleges and universities globally to support student admission Consultation
Consulting with staff and parents in planning appropriate services for students; providing professional advice to students and parents and professional development where needed Referral
Assisting students and their families in receiving appropriate assistance from other programs and services within and outside of the school
Qualifications and Experience
Education and Training
Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent Master degree in guidance and/ or counselling strongly preferred Bible school training strongly preferred Experience
At least three (3) years of experience in guidance/ counselling at a K-12 school required Knowledge
Working knowledge of tertiary education requirements preferred Working knowledge of IB, MYP, etc. Alberta high school diploma, Advanced Placement preferred Competencies
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members required Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Chinese preferred English Language Competency
Proficiency in written and spoken English required Professional Development
Remain current in research and development of guidance and counselling
Effective Date of Employment
The starting date for this appointment is mid-August 2021. Initial contracts are normally 2 years in duration.
