- Increase students’ cultural-linguistic awareness.
- Enhance students’ direct communications with non-English speakers.
- Boost students’ effectiveness in a global community.
- Support students’ completion of graduation and university entrance requirements.

Chinese Studies
CAIS offers well-established Chinese Studies classes to all Preparatory to Grade 12 students.
Entry Level Placement
Placement of students in the appropriate section of Chinese Studies will be determined by CAIS professional teaching staff.
Requirements and Credits
- Chinese Studies is mandatory for Preparatory to Grade 6 students.
- Grade 7 to 9 students can continue to take Chinese Studies or opt for another Second Language.
- Chinese courses in Grade 10 to 12 are electives that count toward the Alberta Diploma.
- Students may choose to write the AP® Chinese Language and Culture Exam.
Script
- Traditional Script will be taught in native/near-native classes.
- Simplified Script will be pursued as a teaching medium in non-native classes.
