Team Lead Counseling

Christian Alliance International School (CAIS), a non-profit making school wholly owned by Kowloon Tong Church of the Chinese Christian and Missionary Alliance, invites applications for the Team Lead Counseling.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Team Lead Counseling works jointly with the Senior Leadership Team and is chiefly responsible for the planning and execution of a strong social-emotional and mental health guidance and counseling program; counseling team oversight; advocacy, and child protection. The following duties and responsibilities are typical but not exhaustive: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL WORKS
  • Supervise, mentor, and ensure counselors remain up to date in clinical best practices
  • Coordinate activities and professional trainings for counselors and guidance support staff
  • Conduct daily and/or weekly meetings or check-ins with counseling staff to ensure that student cases are being effectively managed
  • Provide appraisals for counseling staff
  • Arrange special assignments/site visits for students who are truant
  • Manage the departmental budget and work with your supervisor to create a budget request for the next academic year
  • Keep the Senior Leadership Team informed of cases that may require hospital, police, or social welfare agency support
  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers in planning, implementing, promoting and evaluating the counseling program
  • Employ appropriate interview assessment and/or screening toolsto identify student risk level
  • Maintain student and department records in a professional, efficient, and confidential manner
  • Promote a safe, caring, and supportive environment that embraces and encourages diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging to maintain an atmosphere that is welcoming to students from all walks of life, parents, school staff, and the greater CAIS community.
  • Lead the Child Safety Team and serve as Lead Child Protection Officer by staying informed of local laws, legislation, policies, and ordinances as it relates to child safety and student safeguarding
  • Active member of the Pastoral Care Team at CAIS collaborating with learning support staff for students needing counselling support
  • Other duties as assigned by Head of School or direct supervisor
 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES Guidance and Counselling
  • Develop a school wide guidance curriculum
  • Plan and deliver individual and group guidance / counselling
  • Provide reasonable emergency support outside of school hours
  • An understanding of special education and primary, secondary, and post-secondary education
  • Ability to establish and maintain Christian standards of counselling within a biblical framework
 Consultation
  • Consult with staff and parents in planning appropriate services for students; provide professional advice to students and parents and professional development where needed
  • Develop ongoing partnerships with local mental healthcare professionals and government organizations
  • Ability to deliver articulate oral presentations, surveys, reports, and provide professional development
 Referral
  • Assist students and their families in receiving appropriate assistance from other programs and services within and outside of the school

Qualifications and Experience

Education and Training
  • Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent
  • Master degree in guidance counselling, social work, or related field
  • Membership and license in a professional counseling body preferred
 Experience
  • At least three (3) years of experience in guidance/ counselling at a P-12 school required
  • International School experience would be an advantage
 Competencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Chinese preferred
  • Strong competency in written and spoken English required
 Professional Development
  • Remain current in research and development of guidance and counselling

Effective Date of Employment

The starting date for this appointment is mid-August 2025. Initial contract is normally 2 years in duration. Renewable 2-year contracts are offered subject to mutual agreement.
